The Great Hunger-A Tangible Discussion

Famine Monument-River Liffey, Dublin

Last Thursday 29th September 2022 we hosted our Tangible WILDCARD via Zoom event focused on Ireland’s Great Hunger & Migration.

Jim Gaffey, Ireland’s Great Hunger Bord

This special event was instigated by Jim Gaffey, a proud Irish American with a long track record of positive engagement in Irish affairs, be it business, culture or politics. Jim is a member of The Great Ireland Hunger Bord and is working tirelessly to highlight the significance of this terrible period in Irish history.

He has been particularly focused on the preservation of the unique collection that makes up the Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum which is going through some significant challenges.

We had a range of contributors and input from Ireland, UK, Australia and across the USA and the discussion was substantive and even heated at times.

The scene was by a very well curated Video Introduction by Professor Christine Kinealy, Director of the Great Irish Hunger Institute at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut.

To facilitate further discussion we have provided the link to her VIDEO INTRODUCTION here:

Watch the Recording

In this video Professor Kinealy asks some hard questions and opens the topic for discussion from all perspectives.

Other contributors included Mark Finlay, Michael Durkan, Noreen Bowden, Ronan King, Paul Ferguson with input from a variety of Tangible Ambassadors from around the globe.
